Vilen Gershelis was born on February 20, 1928 – little did he know the impact he would have for 91 years on everyone around him. It would be unsurprising to know that few people that have walked this earth could match his integrity, willingness to help everyone around him, and unwavering principles. These qualities are the ones he will be remembered by. Though he passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, it is his family’s firm belief that his passing was only in body. His soul, his character, and his love for all people and animals around him is very much present and will be the guiding and bright light that accompanies us as we walk through life.
Vilen Gershelis is survived by so many people that adore him. His daughter, Victoria Tabakman and her husband, Alexander Tabakman, his grandchildren Bat-Sheva and Olga, great-grandchildren, Emme, Deelie, and Nellie, his sister Rita and her lovely family, including daughters, Gala and Mila, and extended family that occupies multiple states and continents. Though it may seem strange, he would be very offended if his cats were not mentioned here as well. Nothing more fitting could accompany such a great and lovely man that taught by his example and showed us all how to live and love life.
