Stanley Curtis Walden, 65, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at his home in Houston, TX after battling pancreatic cancer over the past year. He was born on February 4, 1954 in Wichita Falls, TX to the late, Curtis Walden and Linda and Curtis Phillips. Shortly after they moved to Houston.
During Stan’s high school years, he met a girl named, Jeri Lee Applegate. They became instant sweethearts and eventually married on November 11, 1972. When he turned 18, he joined the U.S. Navy and during that time he lived in Washington D.C. and Memphis, TN. Stan served honorably for 6 years before returning home to begin working in the chemical industry. He was a true family man. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren dearly. Stan was an active member of Congregation Shaar Hashalom, a long-time civic club member, as well as a moderator and listener with a Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance. Stan definitely had a “green thumb” and he especially enjoyed a well-maintained yard, no matter how hot it was outside.
Stan was preceded in death by parents; one sister, Stacy Phillips; and one daughter Jasmine Walden. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeri Walden; one son, Travis Walden and his wife Christina of Denver, CO.; his grandchildren, Jasmine and Stella Rocha, Elijah, and Levi Walden; two brothers, Keven Walden and his wife Karen of Needville, TX and Jonathan O’Grady of Houston, TX; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, Stan requested that memorial donations be made to Congregation Shaar Hashalom – Cemetery Fund, 16020 El Camino Real, Houston, TX 77062. Or visit https://www.shaarhashalom.org/donations-page
