Rosalie Skolnik Budnoff was born on August 21, 1928 in Boston, Massachusetts, and died on July 7, 2019 in Dallas. She is survived by her children Kerrie Liebowitz (Stan), David Meltzer (Cathy) and Linda Meltzer (Jeff), and her stepdaughters Paula Nivens and Elena Budnoff. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Michael, Alex, Jeremy, Danny, Ryan, Nathan, Deanna, and Eric; and three great grandchildren who were the light of her life.
Rosalie grew up in Massachusetts, where her father was a printer for the Jewish Advocate. She graduated from Radcliffe College, married Jack Meltzer (z”l) and began her career as a social worker at a time when few women worked outside the home. After moving to Dallas, Rosalie obtained a Masters in Social Work from UT-Arlington and later married Irving Budnoff, who predeceased her. She was a lifelong champion for equality and social justice. She volunteered in the public schools and taught English in China. Rosalie was an active member of Tiferet Israel in Dallas, the Dallas JCC, the National Council of Jewish Women, and the Jewish War Veterans Auxiliary. She was 90 years old.
Funeral services will be at Tiferet Israel in Dallas on Sunday 14 July at 10:30am. Burial will be immediately following at the Tiferet Israel-Agudas Achim Cemetery in Dallas.
