Nanci Adels Fine passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on March 7, 2016 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was 58 years old. Nanci was born on April 22, 1957 in Philadelphia to Dr. Morton and Phyllis Adels. She grew up in Houston and was a graduate of Memorial High School. Her childhood was filled with love and laughter, especially her Camp Mystic summers. Nanci was the “FUN” sister of the five daughters, the life of the party. Family was everything to Nanci, ever so close to her grandparents especially going on jaunts to Las Vegas with her “little” Nana, Estelle Mirkin. Nanci had a larger than life presence, her heart was bigger than Texas. She had a passion for making people laugh. Her dream was to be a stand up comedian and she performed for her family often. She was a lover of life, fiercely loyal, and dedicated to her family and friends. Nanci attended the University of Arizona with plans to be on radio or TV. She moved back to Houston to work for Schepps Dairy. She was a dynamic salesperson, eventually transitioning to the airline business. She began her sales career with British Caledonian Airways and thereafter Fine Air where she became Vice President of Sales. After her husband’s passing, she returned to her Texas roots in Houston. Always the family rock, Nanci will remain a strong and guiding inspiration to her family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Morton and Phyllis Adels, her grandparents, Fred and Estelle Mirkin, Sadie and Leslie Adels, her uncle Tony Mirkin and her husband, Frank Fine. Nanci is survived by her aunt Marilynn Mirkin Wood and aunt Marlene Roosth (“Big Mama”). Loving her nieces and nephew as her own, Nanci was the self-proclaimed favorite aunt in the family to Tony Fine, Francesca Fine, Katie Estelle Klaff, Zoey Hess, and Juliette Hess. “Sweet Nance” is also survived by her “soul” sisters and best friends in life, Dawn Adels Fine, Jill Adels Klaff, Allison Adels, and Kelly Adels Hess and brother in laws, Clive Hess, Barry Fine and Roger Klaff. A funeral service in celebration of Nanci Adels Fine’s life will be held on Thursday, March 10 at 4:00 pm at Congregation Beth Israel, 5600 North Braeswood Boulevard, Houston, Texas where David A. Lyon, Senior Rabbi and Cantor Daniel Mutlu are to officiate. The family requests that in lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in memory of Nanci are directed to Houston Methodist Hospital Lung Institute, 6565 Fannin, Main 100, Houston, Texas 77030 or a charity of one’s choice. Your candle burned out long before your legend ever did.
