Obituary for Louis Leon1921 – 2016
Louis Leon, born on October 4, 1921 in Coleman, Texas, to Isadore Leon and Pearl (Shapiro) Leon, passed away on February 19, 2016, in Houston Texas.
After graduating from Forest Avenue High School in Dallas, Texas, he proudly graduated from Texas A & M. He was always a loyal and passionate Aggie.
Before he left Texas to serve in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Europe during World War II, he married the love of his life, Fannie Phillips, of Tyler, Texas, in 1942, and Fannie and Louis celebrated 68 anniversaries before Fannie passed away in 2011.
Fannie and Louis made Houston, Texas home, for their family. Louis was a brilliant engineer, who retired from Fluor Corporation in 1986.
In retirement, Louis pursued his creative writing, and published 4 novels. He and Fannie traveled extensively, were avid golfers, and enjoyed making many memories with their large and loving family.
Louis is survived by his daughters, Lana Croft, and her husband, Sidney Croft; Susan Leventer; and Deborah Hirsch, and her husband, Michael.
He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Bill Croft, and his wife, Enas; Daniel Croft, and his wife, Melinda; Sam Leventer; Abigail Dahan, and her husband, Aime; Adam Hirsch, and his wife, Eloise; and Neil Hirsch, and his wife, Liz. He was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren – Marissa, Carly, Jacoby, Elie, Izabel, Charlotte and Penelope.
A special thank you to Myrna, Vanessa, Mary and Angela for the loving care they gave Louis in his final months.
Louis’ optimism and can-do spirit was an inspiration to many, and he will be forever missed.
Services will be held Monday, February 22, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. in the Gordon Chapel of Congregation Beth Israel.
