Lawrence Van Praag February 26, 1956 - June 8, 2017

Lawrence (Larry) Jeffery Van Praag, 61, died suddenly on Thursday, June 8, 2017 while vacationing with his family in Alaska.
He leaves his wife of 28 years, Julie (Regan) Van Praag, his brother Kenneth Van Praag of Austin, TX, son Craig Van Praag and daughter in-law Carrie of Wichita, KS, son Eric Van Praag, grandchildren Cameron, Caitlin, Colt, and Cooper, Aunt Cele Steinfink, numerous cousins and dear friends.

Larry was born in Jersey City, NJ to Maurice and Blanche Van Praag and moved to Houston, TX in 1960 where he has lived since.  He graduated from Westbury High School in 1974.

He began a career in sales shortly after graduating high school.  He spent most of his career in furniture sales at various companies most of which were spent at Star Furniture where he was named Salesman of the Year in 1986.

In his early years, Larry was very athletic, playing baseball, basketball and football.  He later competed in triathlons, races, and bike races, including the MS-150 where he rode from Houston to Austin in support of the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.  He was an avid sports fan of all Houston sports teams, but his passion was for baseball and the Astros.  However, his favorite pastime was watching his children and grandchildren compete.

Larry loved to read; his favorite subjects were history, especially military and World War II history, and aviation.  He was also a gun enthusiast and was a member of the National Rifle Association.  Larry had a passion for photography as well.  He enjoyed taking pictures of nature and his family every time he had the chance.

He loved playing with his dogs: Marley, Beans, and Rex, and spending time with his family.  Larry’s greatest source of enjoyment and pride was watching his family succeed in life, school, and sports.

Larry was loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
