Kenneth Louis Herst, 74, died Monday, March 28, 2016. Ken was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, but spent most of his childhood in Battle Creek, Michigan. He attended Iowa State University where he majored in Home Economics, studying Hotel Restaurant Management. Following college, Ken spent two years in the Army where he ran the Officers’ Club at Picatinny Arsenal, Dover, NJ. His son, Michael, was adopted in 1972. His career in restaurant management led him to Houston in 1976, where he opened the Pit Stop Bar-b-que restaurant. Following that, he began his long and successful career as an Executive Recruiter for the Hotel and Restaurant industry eventually opening his own business, Ken Herst Hotel and Consulting, in 1993. Ken loved people, boating, cooking, and the ring of the slot machine. Kenneth is survived by his wife of 22 years, Bonnie, his children Michael and Colleen Herst, Alexis and Tony Harper, and Helene Gotthelf. His 5 grandchildren and many friends will truly miss his humor, nurturing and generous nature. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, March 31, 2016, at 10:30am, at Beth Israel Memorial Gardens, 1101 Antoine, Houston. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
