June Elaine Friedberg Waldman

June Waldman, 95 years young, passed away in her Houston home on July 4th after a brief illness. She was born in Chicago on March 20th, 1924, the last child of Max and Anna Friedberg. June earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education at University of Houston where she later worked for over 25 years, winning a prestigious award for excellence as an academic advisor. She continued to take classes at UH for many years after her retirement.  She maintained a sharp mind by reading avidly, doing crossword puzzles, and playing Scrabble with her big sister and best friend, Beadie. She played Broadway tunes on the piano, enjoyed attending symphonies and plays, participated in book clubs and Emanu Elders activities, and delighted in times with her family. June never forgot a birthday and wrote adorably creative poems to say thank-you or to celebrate special occasions.

A beloved and caring wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend, June was a blessing to all who knew her. She was predeceased by Dr. Nelson Waldman, her devoted husband of 51 years; by her oldest son Alan Waldman; by her brothers Hank, Bob and Whiz Friedberg; and by her sister Rosalie. June is survived by her sister Beadie Lewis; her sons Ken and Barry Waldman; her daughter Laurie Waldman; her daughters-in-law, Sharon, Karen and Nancy Waldman; her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her many special cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice.
