Jeanette Gloria Hertzberg Zarrow, age 92, died on August 7, 2019 at her home in Houston, Texas.
Born and raised in Bronx, NY, Jeanette was the daughter of Rose and David Hertzberg. She resided in Flushing, NY for much of her adult life. In 1993, she moved to Houston, Texas to enjoy the warmer climate and to live near her daughter Lori, and her family.
Upon her graduation from Walton High School in the Bronx in 1944, Jeanette attended Hunter College in the New York City, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. Jeanette earned a Master’s degree in Education from Queens College in the mid 1960’s. Being a teacher provided a sense of purpose, satisfaction and friendship in a flexible work schedule that allowed her to also devote time to her family.
Immediately after college graduation in 1948, Jeanette married Arthur Zarrow, the love of her life.They raised a family, worked and journeyed through life together. They were married for over 70 years at the time of Arthur’s death in 2018.
In her spare time, Jeanette enjoyed knitting, crocheting and needlepoint, reading, exercising, homemaking, dancing, bird watching, travel and attending educational programs. For as long as she was able, Jeanette enjoyed hosting family gatherings in her home.
In addition to her husband, Arthur Zarrow, Jeanette is preceded in death by her parents, Rose and David Hertzberg, and her brother, Alvin Hertzberg. She is survived by her daughter Carol Zarrow Slotnick and son in law David Slotnick; her daughter Lorraine (Lori) Zarrow and son in law Chas Heinsohn; grandchildren Eric Muessel and wife Monique, Jessica Muessel and Emilia Slotnick; sister in law Nina Hertzberg, a niece, nephews and extended family and friends.
