Franklin Spencer "Frankie" Berko April 20, 2009 - September 12, 2019

A Memorial Service will take place Sunday, September 15, 2019, at 3:00 PM at Houston Congregation for Reform Judaism, 801 Bering Dr., Houston, Texas, 77057

His beaming smile lit the hearts of his family and everyone who had the joy of knowing him for his ten short years of life.  Our dear Franklin Spencer “Frankie” Berko (Tzadik ben Gilah v’Chaim) passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 12, 2019.

Frankie loved his life, and he loved everyone in it.  He met each and every day with pure joy and excitement.  His genuine empathy and unconditional love for all people inspired us all to be better versions of ourselves.  He loved celebrating Shabbat, playing several sports, baking, sewing, playing video games, riding his bike, gymnastics and playing drums and the piano.  Most of all, he loved his family and his friends.

Frankie is survived by his loving mother and father, Jennifer and Craig Berko, his adoring older brother, Samuel “Sammy” Berko, his precious puppy dog Minnie Mouse, his grandparents, Michele and Jack Joseph and Paul Berko, his aunts and uncles, Jamie and Lloyd Berko and Carolyn and Chris Wade, his cousins and best friends, Alex and Ella Berko and Rachel, Jesse, Brandon and Juliette Wade.  He is predeceased by his dear grandmother Marge Berko.

After a private burial, a memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, at the Houston Congregation for Reform Judaism (801 Bering Dr., Houston, Texas 77057).

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Frankie’s memory to the Epilepsy Foundation (www.epilepsy.com).

My son Sam has been in Frankie’s cabin at GFC for three years. He called Frankie one of the “original sixers” – the boys who have been together at camp from the beginning. They made so many memories together. Sam is devastated. He has been telling us stories about Frankie, especially Frankie’s awesome talent show performance at camp. We are grieving with you and support you. Our hearts are broken. Frankie will never be forgotten – the boys will make sure of it I know. xoxoxox

I have only seen Frankie’s beautiful face on Facebook, but it has been incredible to witness the light that radiates from this child. I have gleaned what an incredible soul and life he had and how positively he’s impacted his classmates and friends and thus others from afar. I pray for strength and peace for you all in this time and in the years to come for your family. May Frankie’s memory be eternal as he rests in the bosom of Our Creator.

We just heard about this devastating news today. We are so heartbroken over the loss of your sweet boy. I am sure you do not know us, but Isaac got to know Frankie at camp. Isaac had never been away from home for so long and was homesick. Frankie was so kind to him and made him feel welcome and always made an effort to include him- which meant a lot because Isaac was new the group of boys at camp. Becoming friends with Frankie was one of Isaac’s most positive camp memories. Our family got to hear tales of Frankie’s back flips and cheerful kindness upon Isaac’s return from camp – Frankie was one of the main reasons Isaac was considering returning to camp next year. His kindness and friendship will be a lifelong memory for Isaac. Our older daughters also go to Greene and also knew and loved Frankie’s cheerfulness and big smile. We are so very sorry. The Hochglaube family
