Memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, January 3rd at Seven Acres Chapel/Auditorium at 6200 N. Braeswood with Rabbi David Rosen officiating.

Faye Rosalie Kotin, 95, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2018. A first-generation Houstonian, Faye was born on September 7, 1923 in Houston’s Third Ward to the late Alex and Pearl Schwartz. She graduated from San Jacinto high school in 1941.

In 1949 she married Benjamin (Ben) Kotin and moved to Galveston where Faye worked with her husband in his architectural firm as his secretary. When they opened the Treasure Isle motel, Faye set up their record keeping systems. Her organizational and leadership skills were legendary, as demonstrated through her impactful volunteer work as President of various Jewish organizations and charities, including Sisterhood, B’nai Brith Women and later on, AMIT.

Upon their semi-retirement, in 1970, Faye and Ben moved back to Houston. Faye, always busy with new ventures, became the Physicians Formula Cosmetics representative for the Houston area. She called on dermatologists and plastic surgeons to assist their patients with skin care, bringing help to so many while also contributing to the success of the company in Texas.

She was the founder of the Pearl Schwartz Houston chapter of AMIT Women, named in memory of her mother. She worked tirelessly for this organization to help school children in Israel. She was a lifelong member of Beth Yeshurun synagogue, and along with her brothers and sister, created the Alex Schwartz library in memory of their parents’ longtime devotion to the chapel.

Faye was a devoted and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ben Kotin of Galveston, Texas. She is survived by her daughters Gayle (Steve) Stein of Orlando, Florida, Valerie (Sam) Roberts of Houston, Texas, and Karen (Danny) Alkayam of Evergreen, Colorado, 8 wonderful grandchildren and 7 adorable great-grandchildren, who affectionately call her Nani. They are Kari, Layne (Cyndi), Lyndi (Justin), Brian (Cassandra), Jeremy (Megan), Alex, Kellie (Tim), and Ronit; great grandchildren: Annesley, Kaley, Lilly, Doris, Jack and Wynston. Other survivors include her brother, Sol (Joanie) Schwartz. She is also predeceased by her brother Adolph (Estelle) Schwartz, sister Eudy (Sandy) Schwartz, cousin and longtime friend Shirley Bell, sister in laws Beau (Abe) Merfish and Pearl (David) Cohen and brother in law Sol Kotin.

The family would like to give special thanks to her loving caregivers, her extended family at The Medallion Assisted Living Center and Seasons Hospice.

Memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, January 3rd at Seven Acres Chapel/Auditorium at 6200 N. Braeswood with Rabbi David Rosen officiating.  Her family gathered for a private graveside service prior to the Memorial Service.
